My Background
Throughout my training, I've been fortunate to learn from some wonderful teachers and colleagues. I graduated from Swarthmore College (BA with Distinction in Human Nature and Culture), the University of Pennsylvania (MSEd in Psychological Services), and Rutgers University (PhD in Clinical Psychology, fully funded with an Excellence Fellowship). I completed my School Psychology Certification through Bryn Mawr College and my clinical internship at CHOP's Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic which specialized in family therapy.
My independent practice was established in 1997. Since then, I've also held several institutional appointments. Most recently, I taught Adolescent Development to teachers at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, I spent many years as the Middle and Upper School Psychologist at Friends' Central School in Wynnewood. Earlier, I worked as a Staff Psychologist at Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia. There, I provided psychological consultation to Central High School; treated adults in the Outpatient Clinic; taught family therapy to psychiatry residents; and, as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Faculty member at Widener University, supervised pre-doctoral trainees in psychotherapy and testing.
Over the years, I've presented workshops on a range of topics including stress and coping; mood disorders; coping with divorce and remarriage; parenting adolescents; bullying and relational aggression; and social challenges in middle school. I've led groups with a focus on peer relationships; girls' development; healthy eating; and coping with grief and loss. Through the design of individual learning profiles and community-wide surveys, I've collaborated closely with educators to better understand and address student needs.
Throughout my career, writing for professional journals and newsletters has been a source of satisfaction and pleasure. My life experiences, especially those as a parent and spouse, enrich and inform my professional work.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, and Specialists of Schools.
